Applying a temporary tattoo: steps and common mistakes
You apply a temporary INKC tattoo to clean, dry skin using a damp cloth or sponge. After that, the jagua ink needs time to become visible: usually 12 to 24 hours. Placing it correctly and letting it develop undisturbed are therefore two distinct parts of the process.
This step-by-step plan will help you with preparation and application. Always use the instructions included with your order for the precise steps, application time, and aftercare.
What do you need?
- Your temporary tattoo and the included user instructions.
- Water and a clean cloth or sponge.
- A place where you can sit comfortably and see the design clearly.
- Optionally, a mirror or someone who can help with hard-to-reach areas.
Read the instructions completely before you begin. This way, you won't need to search for the next step while applying it.
Step 1: determine the placement and orientation
First, see where you want to wear the design. Hold it against the desired spot to get an impression of the size and orientation without applying the tattoo yet. For text or an elongated design, check how you want it to look when you are standing or sitting in a relaxed position.
For a wrist or arm, it also helps to bend and twist. For a larger design, it is wise to determine where the top and bottom should go first. Are you still unsure about the size? Check our guide for choosing temporary tattoos.
Step 2: start with clean, dry skin
Ensure the area is clean and dry before you place the tattoo. Then, work according to your product's instructions. Also, check which side goes against the skin and what preparation steps are required.
Step 3: place the tattoo and wet the back
Hold the tattoo against the chosen spot and press firmly on the back with a damp cloth or sponge. Work calmly and keep the design in place. Follow the application time provided in the included instructions; do not rely solely on how the paper looks at that moment.
For a larger design, help can be useful. Decide in advance who will hold the design in place and who will use the damp cloth.
Step 4: remove the paper according to the instructions
Follow the directions provided with your tattoo for removing the paper and the steps immediately after. Do not expect a fully dark design at this moment. The application is finished, but the color development is only just beginning.
Step 5: give the color time
The INKC jagua ink gradually stains the top layer of skin. Usually, the tattoo becomes visible within 12 to 24 hours, with an eventual dark blue to black hue. The color may vary from person to person.
If you want to show off the design at a specific time, for example during a party, plan the application with that development time in mind and follow the aftercare instructions in the meantime.
Common mistakes during application
Determining the placement only during application
Decide on the spot and orientation beforehand. Especially with text or a sleeve, it is inconvenient to discover that you want the design positioned differently while holding a wet cloth.
Skipping the user instructions
Do not automatically assume the application method for a tattoo you have used from another brand before. Lay out the instructions from your order and follow them step by step.
Considering a light tattoo a failure immediately
A jagua tattoo does not reach full color instantly. Give the design the indicated development time first. If the result remains different than expected after that, ask for advice before attempting a new application yourself.
Starting just before an event
Application and color development do not take the same amount of time. A quick application process does not mean your tattoo is immediately ready to look dark in a photo.
What if the result is disappointing?
First, check when you applied the tattoo and whether the development time has already passed. When you have questions, keep the design or your order number at hand and take a clear photo. You can ask for help via the INKC contact page and explain which steps you followed.
Frequently asked questions about application
Why is my temporary tattoo still almost invisible?
The color only develops after application. With INKC, this usually takes 12 to 24 hours. A light first impression is therefore not the final result.
Should I apply the tattoo to wet skin?
Start with clean, dry skin. You use the damp cloth or sponge on the back of the placed tattoo, according to the included instructions.
Can I apply a sleeve by myself?
That depends, among other things, on how reachable the area is. With a large design, someone can help to keep the placement clear. Determine the position in advance and follow the product instructions.
How long can I wear the result?
INKC tattoos remain visible for up to two weeks. Read more about placement, daily use, and expectations in our article about how long they last.
